Giardino Torrigiani

A WELL-KEPT SECRET

The Torrigiani Garden is the largest private garden in Florence, a true oasis of peace hidden in the heart of the city: once through the gate, one enters a suspended space where the hustle and bustle of the city dissolves.

Quiet paths lined with centuries-old hedges lead to fairy-tale views, such as a romantic pond populated by aquatic plants and birds of all kinds, and a path bordered by ancient roses leading to a small stone temple where the poet Foscolo loved to meditate; and then various fountains, mysterious statues and a green amphitheatre that hosts summer readings and concerts.

The Torrigiani Garden enchants the senses in every season: in spring, when it is open to the public for only three weeks, it is a triumph of colours and scents: chestnuts and cherry trees give way to the blue of the hyacinths, while the powerful yellow of the narcissus greets visitors along the paths.

The Torrigiani Garden is a spell of plants and history that illuminates Florence, too beautiful to be true, and yet so real. A place to visit and to fall in love with the magic of one of the city's most unexpected corners, off the beaten track.
