Stibbert Museum

A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY

The Stibbert House Museum is a place out of time, it welcomes you into a historic atmosphere and brings you back to late 19th-century Florence.

Stepping through the gate of Villa Stibbert, a neoclassical mansion surrounded by a centuries-old park, you will feel like travelling back in time: the elegance of the frescoed rooms, the wealth of the furniture, and the Florentine art work on the walls will immerse you in a glorious era of different times.

But the crown juwel of this villa is Cavalier Stibberts's collection of oriental and european art, meticulously chosen during a lifetime of travels and passions: thousands of antique weapons, armour, porcelain and precious carpets, all to be discovered. Among the corridors and secret rooms of the villa you will find treasures well worth a trip, such as the shining armour of the Japanese samurai from the 1600s or the mysterious self-portrait by Bronzino.

Strolling through the park full of cypresses and statues which is surrounding the villa, completes the magic experience this place has to offer. It feels like being in the middle of an adventurous 19th-century novel and a costume film, in a city that doesn't exist anymore if not in those walls.
